Yes, you read that right. I'm finally on TikTok! My friends have been raving about this app from years back and I remember it blew up in the Philippines even more when the pandemic hit back in 2020. But, it's just now that I'm hopping on this TikTok train. Forgive me? I've finally decided to join TikTok for a couple of reasons: 1) It's quite required for one of my courses at George Brown College 2) More importantly, I know this channel is important for brands and marketers as it has the potential to become even bigger than Facebook. So, here I am learning my ways around TikTok and feeling like I've been hiding under a rock all these years! TikTok is a blackhole for anyone and everyone who is looking to be entertained. I didn't realize how much time I would spend scrolling endlessly. I found SO MANY random yet entertaining videos! For me, one thing is clear, with all the noise going around on TikTok, it’s hard for creators and brands to stand out. Brands usually need something so unique that’s never been done before in order for them to emerge from all the other content that’s being published every minute, maybe every second? But one thing that I'll never forget that I learned from fashion school back in London, it’s that nothing is original anymore. Whatever you see in the fashion world has been done by other designers or brands in the past. What really matters is just how you present your work to make it relevant and making it relevant will make you stand out. Of all the the content that I endlessly scrolled through during my free time, one thing that I found “amazing” on TikTok was one video from Browns Shoes. It was nothing new or special but it reminded me of one content that I produced from my previous job in Manila. Here’s some screenshots of Brown’s TikTok video below:

I’ve also added the link here if you want to have a look at it via TikTok.

Like I said, it’s nothing out of this world but I found it personally cool since it was similar to what I did back home for one of the brands that I handled. Just a little background, as a previous marketing officer for footwear brands back home, one of my favourite tasks was conceptualizing content and manage our brands’ social media pages. I found Brown’s content pretty cool because it was very similar to what I thought of for one of our campaigns back then.

And like I said, from what I’ve learned in the past, nothing is original anymore! And this just proves it. It’s definitely done by many other brands in the past and I'm sure this video trend will continue to be seen. It’s a creative and fun way to showcase the different products or colour ways of certain shoe style and it can be done for any product in a brand's line. I'm sure there are way more interesting and creative videos out there on TikTok, but this one just struck me the most and reminded me of a job I loved to do back home. Oh and before I forget.. follow me on TikTok? @denisecalaguas Cheers!
